There has been speculation about Abe’s health in Japan for weeks, sparked by two recent hospital visits by the prime minister.
Abe has been in office longer than almost any other head of government. Last Monday, that was 2,799 days. The 65-year-old has been Prime Minister of Japan and Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party since December 2012. His term as head of government expired in September 2021.
