Erling Haaland was in a bad mood. The 2: 3 defeat against Borussia Dortmund in the German Supercup in Bayern Munich felt “bad”, the Norwegian grumbled – and he had to blame it on himself.
Seven minutes after his equalizer to 2-2 (52nd), the Norwegian should have put the guests in the lead, but he failed in a one-on-one against the excellent Bayern captain Manuel Neuer. “I should have scored another goal, that’s a crappy feeling”, Haaland said remorsefully. Neuer “showed why he is such a good goalkeeper”, the attacker added admiringly: “He stops – 97 percent of the goalkeepers go down and I score. But not this man!”
Next attempt on Saturday
The defeat “hurts a lot,” added the 20-year-old, “we should and could have won. It feels like shit being so close.” But that’s “the difference between the best in the world and us: they take these games and win them.”
How can this be remedied? “We have to keep playing,” said Haaland, “and try again on Saturday.” Then it is in the Bundesliga against SC Freiburg. The good news for Haaland: Neuer is no longer in the opponent’s goal.
