Barely four days before the quarter-finals of the Champions League against RB Leipzig, Atlético Madrid reported two positive corona tests. As the Spanish first division football team announced on Sunday evening, the tests were positive for two people who were not named. It is therefore also unclear whether these are players. The club announced that the entire delegation of 93 members going to the mini tournament in Lisbon will be tested again on Monday.
According to Spanish media reports, there is even a risk that the game will be delayed in the event of positive tests among players. Atlético will play the first quarter final against Leipzig on Thursday.
The tests for the coronavirus were reportedly carried out on Saturday at the training center in Majadahonda near Madrid on all delegates. The people who tested positive went home quarantined after the test results were announced. The European Football Association Uefa and all authorities and associations in Spain and Portugal have already been informed. The delegation’s trip to Portugal, originally scheduled for Monday, has been postponed due to the new tests required by the UEFA action protocol. The new travel plan has not yet been established.
