No, Schalke gambled away their last trump card
Zero points, 1:11 goals – and one look at the line-up is enough to see: this start is no wonder. Fährmann, Rudy, Bentaleb and Uth, four players at a time, are in key positions and should lead Schalke – after being chased from the farm a year ago and would rather not come back. The identification? Manageable of course.
But typical of the catastrophic squadron planning of recent years. Where Neuer, Raul and Huntelaar played ten years ago, this season Mc Kenny, Caligiuri and Nübel were given up – arguably the best players. In its place came Hertha’s tossed grandpa Ibisevic and Frankfurt’s replacement Paciencia – at best, shameful transfers.
There is not enough money for new stars or a new top trainer. Then there is the theater around ex-boss Tönnies. Schalke has gambled the only remaining trump card from the past few years. The name that always attracted players. Nowadays they prefer to go to Freiburg or Frankfurt. There they have a better perspective.
The only positive thing about Schalke was Harit’s corona test last week. Without trainers, stars, money and ideas? So Schalke cannot be saved.
