Oberhaching (dpa) – The sports director of the German Tennis Federation, Klaus Eberhard, can imagine Boris Becker returning to the federation as chairman.
“In principle I can imagine Boris as DTB chairman, but that is not a problem at the moment,” Eberhard said during an online press conference of the Bavarian Tennis Association.
Becker announced his retirement at the end of November as head of men’s tennis at the DTB. In the future, he will no longer have time to perform the task according to his ideas. However, the three-time Wimbledon winner had also stated that he could imagine “if my time permits, then taking on an even greater task at the DTB if the opportunity arises.” Ulrich Klaus is currently DTB president and plans to return to work by the end of January 2021.
According to Eberhard, Becker’s withdrawal was “somewhat surprising.” “It was a big win,” said Eberhard. Michael Kohlmann will take over Becker’s duties in the future. Both were last jointly responsible for the Davis Cup team. “We are dealing with it right now and we will,” Eberhard said of Becker’s withdrawal.
