Gelsenkirchen (AP) – FC Schalke 04 has denied media reports that professional footballer Benjamin Stambouli should have left the stadium during the halftime break of the Bundesliga home game against VfL Wolfsburg (0-2) on Saturday.
“Benji reacted disappointed to his substitution at half time – yes. But he did not leave the stadium prematurely, that’s just a false report,” Schalke sports director Jochen Schneider quoted in a club statement.
According to the club, testimonials and video footage from the surveillance cameras show that Stambouli left the arena at the bottom of the Bundesliga table well after the final whistle and along with Omar Mascarell and Goncalo Paciencia before exiting the car park at the professional service center. “After the game started again, he sat in the stands and supported our team. We spoke to Benji and everything was clarified,” said Schneider.
