Start – Nagelsmann: Fifth or sixth place would be “disappointment”

Leipzig (AP) – trainer Julian Nagelsmann of Bundesliga football club RB Leipzig wants to attack with his team again in the Bundesliga season starting this weekend.

“If we were fifth or sixth, that would be a disappointment for everyone involved. I take this pressure on myself,” said Nagelsmann of the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung”.

However, the 33-year-old also admitted that it would be a great challenge with his young team to play for the title. “You have to take into account performance differences among young players. There will be a loss of points and it will be difficult for you to reach the top,” explains Nagelsmann. The RB coach pointed out that it takes time to work with many players who can develop. Teams like Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, could also count on several experienced professionals.

“With all due respect, Robert Lewandowski really doesn’t need to train anymore. He can do anything. He just needs to train in such a way that he’s fresh and ready for the weekend,” Nagelsmann said of the Bayern goalscorer. “Moreover, we can no longer reach the very top of the internationally coveted top young players. At this point Dortmund and Bayern are ahead of us. Accordingly, we will not be able to catch these teams when things go normally,” said the RB coach.
