Mönchengladbach (dpa) – Captain Lars Stindl sees Borussia Mönchengladbach in the group of very good Bundesliga teams behind Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
Although some clubs are better positioned financially, they still want to compete with these clubs. “And we have shown that we are competitive. We will see each other there in the near future,” said the 31-year-old in an interview with the “Rheinische Post”.
Last season, Gladbach finished fourth behind champions Munich, Dortmund and RB Leipzig, reaching the Champions League for Bayer Leverkusen. In the first half of the season, coach Marco Rose’s team was even at the top of the table.
According to Stindl Bayern, Munich is the absolute top team in the Bundesliga. “Then comes Borussia Dortmund, which has other qualities and also special financial opportunities compared to the other clubs,” said the attacking player. “There are a lot of good teams behind them in the league competing for places. I think we can count ourselves among this group of very good Bundesliga teams.”
In the Champions League, the eleven-time international prefers to play against Real Madrid at the Bernabéu stadium, and preferably for spectators. He recently missed fans, Stindl said, referring to the ghost games because of the corona pandemic. “It was a new, somewhat strange experience to play in an empty stadium. I think we’ve all made the most of it. The joy will be great when we can get back to normal at some point,” said the attacking player .
