In Canada, a young man in medieval costume apparently attacked several people. He killed two people with a sword. Police called on Twitter to stay home.
A man armed with a sword killed two people and injured five others in Quebec City, Canada on Halloween. As local media reported, citing police, the attacker was dressed in a medieval costume. In their mid-twenties, they were arrested and taken to a hospital on Sunday evening, police spokesman Étienne Doyon said. Nothing is known about the motif so far.
The perpetrator would also have worn a mask
The attacks took place late Saturday night (local time) in old Québec, near the National Assembly and a luxury hotel, it was said. The police called on residents not to leave their homes. The suspect was eventually found near the harbor. According to information from the newspaper “Le Soleil”, he was dressed completely in black and also wore a black mask. He was hypothermic and allowed himself to be arrested without opposition. Police found petrol cans in his car.
Doyon said he currently cannot say whether the perpetrator was known to the police or if there were other suspects. Police said on Twitter that, according to initial information, there was nothing to indicate that the suspect was acting for other than personal reasons.
The researchers did not provide details about the victims. “Our thoughts are with the families of those who have died,” Doyon said. The injured were in hospital, their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. The largely French-speaking Québec is located in eastern Canada and is the capital of the province of the same name.
