Paris (dpa) – The German tennis professional Alexander Zverev says he has tested negative for the corona virus.
“I got the result today: I am negative. I have no corona,” the 23-year-old from Hamburg told television channel Eurosport. He caught a cold and was “a little sick”. But that would “not immediately mean that you have Corona,” said Zverev.
Zverev was eliminated in the eighth finals at the French Open on Sunday and had reported a fever the night before after losing to 19-year-old Italian Jannik Sinner. After that, there were debates about whether Zverev was allowed to play in this state at all and whether he posed a danger to his opponent and the other people on the field.
According to organizers on Sunday evening, the last time Zverev was tested was on September 29 and the result was negative. Prior to the game, the German number one did not inform the tournament doctor about his problems, the French federation reports on Sunday.
