Sisteron (dpa) – On the fourth day, the drivers of the 107th Tour de France will have their first mountain finish. Has there already been the first exchange of hits between the favorites? And how is Yellow Bearer Julian Alaphilippe doing? The Frenchman will not give away his jersey without a struggle.
ROUTE: After 160.5 kilometers, starting in Sisteron, it goes up on Tuesday to the 1825 meter high ski station in Orcières-Merlette. The mountain in the first category has an average gradient of 6.7 percent over 7.1 kilometers.
FAVORITES: On the first arrival of the tour in the mountains, the contenders for the overall victory will be challenged for the first time. The top stars around defending champion Egan Bernal (Colombia) and Vuelta winner Primoz Roglic (Slovenia) will not make decisive minutes here, but on a bad day the tour dreams can certainly be over. For Emanuel Buchmann, who started the tour, the stage is already a first indicator.
YELLOW JERSEY: For yellow carrier Julian Alaphilippe, it should be a challenge to maintain the top position. But the French can certainly be trusted, because last year he surpassed himself in the yellow jersey, for example at the Tourmalet. But mountain-strong Briton Adam Yates, who is just four seconds behind, looks for his chance.
GERMAN: Buchmann, what else? Lennard Kämna is most likely eligible for a front placement, but the youngster has already had three falls in his legs. The focus is also on Maximilian Schachmann, who started the tour with a broken collarbone. Under normal circumstances, he would be a surprise man.
