Scuderia Ferrari also has no chance at home at the anniversary race in Mugello. Sebastian Vettel then talks about the presentation of his team – and it once again becomes clear.
The 1000th Grand Prix in Ferrari’s Formula 1 history should have been a reason to celebrate: for this special occasion during the Tuscan Grand Prix at the home circuit in Mugello, the Scuderia wore overalls in traditional red, even the safety car – ironically from Mercedes – was in the color Ferrari. On track, however, there was no reason for Sebastian Vettel’s team to celebrate: the four-time world champion was only tenth, while his teammate Charles Leclerc was still eighth.
After the following indignity in Formula 1, Vettel’s verdict was devastating. “There weren’t many cars that were slower than us today. That is of course bitter,” said the four-time world champion. The traditional team followed the local Tifosi without a chance on Sunday. “I would have liked to win more than one point, but that didn’t work out in the end,” said 33-year-old Vettel.
In the first Grand Prix after his move to Aston Martin became known from 2021, Vettel could hardly take advantage of serious accidents in the hopelessly inferior Ferrari. “There was a lot going on, of course, but everyone could say that today,” said Vettel: “We just didn’t have the pace in the race, that was all we could.”
Teammate Charles Leclerc also lagged in eighth place. “We miss the speed, we wear the tires too fast. It’s the whole project that we have to rethink,” admitted Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto.
