He killed his great-grandmother to steal money for a trip. A 21-year-old man confessed to an insidious murder in Lower Saxony.
A 21-year-old man charged with the murder of his great-grandmother made an extensive confession before the Oldenburg Regional Court. He described in detail how, in late February 2020, he first tried to strangle the 88-year-old with a rope and then killed her with violent blows to the head. Then he took the bank card and withdrawn money from his great-grandmother’s account to finance a ‘farewell trip’ before suicide, in his own words.
At the time of the crime, the prosecutor accused the 20-year-old of deliberately and cruelly killing someone out of greed. The judge emphasized that he had rarely seen a defendant who mentioned and described things so clearly from the beginning. “That leaves me a bit lost,” said the judge. “Because it is unclear and incomprehensible why someone had to lose their life because of a farewell trip.”
