Bremen (AP) – Bundesliga football club Werder Bremen will not allow Milot Rashica, Milos Veljkovic and newcomer Tahith Chong to join the national teams due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the club, the Hanze has decided that the trio will stay in Bremen for the next week because of the risk areas identified by the Robert Koch Institute. Rashica would have played with Kosovo in the capital Pristina against Moldova, the Serbian Veljkovic in Russia and at home and the Dutch U21 international Chong in Belarus.
The Bremen Health Authority has specified that when you travel to a risk area, you must be quarantined for five days after your return, even if the test result is negative. “With this in mind, we decided with the players that they would not travel to the national teams, because that would also rule out a game in the cup. We want to avoid that,” said sports director Frank Baumann. The Bremen team will participate in the DFB Cup on September 12 at the fourth division club Carl Zeiss Jena.
