Flensburg (dpa) – The handball players of SG Flensburg-Handewitt have closed the Champions League year 2020 with a work victory. The North Germans were victorious at 30:29 (15:12) against the Norwegian champion Elverum HB.
The most successful pitcher for Flensburg was seven-time goalscorer Johannes Golla. Dominik Mathe also scored seven goals for the hosts.
After a difficult start, the team of coach Maik Machulla, who now have 13: 3 points on their account, apparently had the game under control. But the hosts never gave up. After a bad pitch just before time, Elverum still had a chance to equalize, but luck remained on SG’s side. The German champions of 2018 and 2019 won the first leg against the Norwegians 37:35.
Instead of the scheduled ten games, the SG has only played eight games in the preliminary round of the premier league. The matches at Pick Szeged in Hungary and HC Brest in Belarus had to be postponed due to the corona. The next Champions League match day is in Egypt after the World Cup in January. The exact date of the home game against Vardar Skopje from North Macedonia is not yet known.
