Munich (dpa) – Pelé celebrated his 80th birthday, Diego Maradona the 60th – Gerd Müller will turn 75 in a few days. When Hansi Flick was asked who he thinks was the greatest footballer of all time, he raved about the “bomber of the nation”.
“For me he was the coolest kicker in my youth, because he scored the goals in the front with a naturalness that is no longer available. Well, Lewy still has it,” said the Bayern coach.
Müller, who celebrated his birthday on Tuesday (November 3), was for him “the idol in youth,” according to Flick. “I was very happy when I met him.” While playing for FC Bayern, he met Müller at the time and also played tennis with him, Flick reported. “I wish him all the best for his birthday and health.”
Müller scored 1,251 goals in 998 games for FC Bayern – he was in the starting line-up in 996 of those games. Müller scored 68 times in just 62 games for Germany – the most important goal was the 2-1 in the 1974 World Cup final against the Netherlands.
