Kidnapping, extortion, theft, fraud – the allegations against members of a family clan in Lower Saxony weigh heavily. Now three of them have been caught in a raid.
Three suspects were arrested in a large-scale operation against clan crime in Lower Saxony. You and a fourth suspect are accused of kidnapping, extortion, burglary, theft and fraud, the public prosecutor in Osnabrück announced on Thursday. During the searches in 21 residential and commercial buildings, cash, weapons and luxury cars were seized.
According to the prosecution, three of the suspects are alleged clan members. The suspects allegedly broke into at least seven single-family homes in different cities during Christmas time last year. In addition, three of the suspects are suspected of “snatching” EUR 50,000 in cash from an elderly woman.
Theft and benefit fraud
The value of the stolen property in the form of cash, tools and electronics amounts to about 100,000 euros, according to the public prosecutor. In addition, two clan members are said to have illegally received social security benefits of about EUR 26,000.
According to the public prosecutor, 21 apartments and business premises in Ostercappeln, Peine and Osnabrück have been searched. The three suspects have been arrested because of the risk of escape and blackout.
“We will fight clan crime not only from the threshold of organized crime, but also with consistent criminal prosecution far below,” Lower Saxony Justice Minister Barbara Havliza (CDU) said after the mission. “With this we make our rule of law strong and defensible.” Usage shows how useful special forces are. Four central offices have been established in Lower Saxony to combat clan crime. One of them is in Osnabrück.
