FC Bayern does not want to submit a new contract offer to David Alaba. A star of RB Leipzig is now considered a possible replacement, a potential successor is already in Munich. An analysis.
Aside from all the worries in this world, FC Bayern Munich and David Alaba are currently going through an ordeal. This term describes the failed contract negotiations between the German record champion and his Austrian best defender.
Alaba is from Vienna, but still faces identification with the Bundesliga giant from Bavaria. He likes to mix his characteristic Viennese humor with Bavarian idioms. The 28-year-old is on the road in the Glockenbachviertel. The blocks between Isar and Viktualienmarkt became famous far beyond Munich in the 1980s thanks to Freddie Mercury.

Bayern without David Alaba? German record champions are looking for a successor
It is home to iconic cafes and bars, where Alaba likes to sip an espresso, and a very close friend has his hair salon (“Chez Frère Gogi”) nearby. And that should end soon? One thing is for sure, the 2013 and 2020 three-time hero has fallen out of favor with parts of the fans because he doesn’t want to get away from reportedly gruesome salary demands.
FCB chairman Herbert Hainer confirmed in “Blickpunkt Sport” on Bayerischer Rundfunk that a successor was being sought: “Of course we also have to make plans for the future.”
Chillreport explains possible follow-up scenarios.
1st scenario: Tanguy Nianzou – is Alaba’s replacement already at Bayern?
It is quite possible that the replacement for the center and the fullback is already there: Tanguy Nianzou. The 18-year-old Frenchman was on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain this season, but did not play for Bayern due to injuries.
PSG coach Thomas Tuchel’s grief over his departure proves the lanky defensive all-rounder is needed for bigger things. “It was not the time for him to leave the club. At the age of 18 he really was a protagonist,” said the German coach at the end of June: “I don’t understand and I’m sad.”
2nd scenario: Dayot Upamecano – Will FC Bayern take the head of the defense of RB Leipzig?
“Upamecano is a machine,” Sky expert and ex-Bayer Dietmar “Didi” Hamann said recently. For months, the defense chief of RB Leipzig has been traded as a possible new addition to the German champions. In the summer, a transfer seemed certain when the 22-year-old Frenchman unexpectedly extended for two years with the Champions League semi-finalist from Saxony.
But: according to “Bild” an exit clause of more than 50 million euros must be written in the new contract. According to reports, Real Madrid is also doing its best to get him. The only downside from Bayern’s point of view: Upamecano is right-footed, world champion Lucas Hernández would be the only left-footed center-back. Not exactly ideal.
3rd scenario: will David Alaba stay with Bayern Munich?
Säbener Straße 51 in quiet Munich-Harlaching is known for keeping a back door open. Mario Götze was recently in talks again, Douglas Costa brought back Bayern despite allegations of “mercenaries” from honorary president Uli Hoeneß.
And Alaba? Despite recent disagreements, the Austrian’s place of residence cannot be ruled out. According to the Spanish sports newspaper “AS”, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona cannot and do not want to pay Alaba.
In fact, Bayern President and Hoeneß’s intimate partner Hainer opened the back door – figuratively speaking – himself. “I want to say again that we appreciate David very much. He’s a nice guy, a crowd favorite, his own FC Bayern Munich. And that’s why we would be so sorry if we had to go our separate ways at the end of the season,” said the Bavarian in ‘Blickpunkt Sport’.
Hainer continues: “David is still under contract with us for eight months. If David wants to talk to us, we are of course always ready to talk to him. There is no doubt.” His obvious hint: Alaba should approach his employer now, not the other way around. Continuation follows.
