According to his doctor, Donald Trump can go back to the public on Saturday. His campaign team is now demanding that the second debate take place – in the presence of both candidates.
US President Donald Trump’s election campaign team is demanding that the second TV debate with challenger Joe Biden take place next Thursday, as originally with the presence of both candidates. Election campaign leader Bill Stepien pointed out that Trump’s personal physician already assumed this weekend that the ailing Covid-19 president would return safely to the public. That means there is no longer any reason to keep the debate online or postpone it, he said on Thursday.
The committee that organized the debates had previously announced that given the president’s illness, the debate would take place over the Internet instead of Trump and Biden in Miami. Trump subsequently canceled his participation. TV broadcaster ABC then set Biden’s Voter Question Time for the day.
Trump’s personal physician Sean Conley announced on Thursday that Trump had completed the Covid treatment he was prescribed. He expects Trump to attend public rallies again this Saturday. It’s the tenth day after Trump’s coronavirus test turned positive on Thursday last week, the doctor wrote in an update on the president’s health. “I expect the president to return safely to public meetings around this time.” In justification, Conley referred somewhat vaguely to “the curve in advanced diagnostics”.
Trump had previously said he would like to do campaign events again. In general, ten days is considered the time after which corona patients are no longer contagious. However, experts point out that the period may differ in individual cases. “I don’t think I’m contagious,” Trump said in a TV interview Thursday morning.
Treatment with an experimental antibody agent
Trump had returned to the White House on Monday night after three nights in the hospital. On Wednesday he was said to have had no symptoms for more than a day. Now Conley wrote that there was no evidence of disease progression. Trump’s values are “stable,” Conley said. Trump had been treated with an experimental antibody drug and steroids, among other things. “Overall, he responded very well to the treatment,” said the personal physician.
Conley said Trump’s heart rate was 69 beats per minute on Thursday afternoon and his blood oxygen saturation was 96 to 98 percent. This is an important value for corona patients because the virus can affect the lungs. Trump’s values are “stable,” Conley said. There are no signs that his Covid 19 disease is getting worse. Trump was given supplemental oxygen last week after the saturation level dropped below 94 percent. Conley has not asked journalists any questions since Trump returned to the White House.
Authorities ask for tests
Health authorities in the US capital Washington and the surrounding area have urged people who may have been affected to get tested after the Corona outbreak at the White House. A letter published Thursday stated that the number of corona cases among people who worked in the White House or around government headquarters or attended an event there on Sept. 26 in the past two weeks had increased. According to the authorities, only a limited number of contacts of infected persons have been detected so far. There is therefore a risk that other employees and residents have become infected.
TV broadcaster ABC News reported Wednesday, citing an internal civil protection agency (Fema) document that 34 White House employees and other contacts had been infected with the virus in recent days. After Trump’s contamination became known on Friday, the list of infected people in his area had grown. In addition to the White House spokeswoman, Trump’s close advisers Hope Hicks and Stephen Miller have also tested positive. The White House is extremely cautious about the scale of the outbreak regarding personal rights.
On Sept. 26, Trump presented his candidate for a vacant Supreme Court judge in the White House Rose Garden. More than 100 guests gathered that day, few wore masks and there was hardly any space between the seats. Multiple participants were then tested positive for Corona.
