Turbulent VAR chaos in the beginning
The Wolfsburg was able to cheer immediately at the start of the match. Renato Steffen threw a Maximilian Philipp template perfectly into the net – the 1-0 (5th). But the hit wasn’t given out until two minutes later, as it was yet to be verified by the video evidence.
Less than five minutes later, the hosts had another great opportunity. After almost half an hour, Wout Weghorst then made it 2-0 (26th). Wolfsburg’s Maximilian Arnold had to be treated on the head in the 36th minute after being wounded in a duel with Hoffenheim’s Diadie Samassekou.
Weghorst misses a penalty
Ishak Belfodil could have shortened TSG’s goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went wide. In the second half, the teams dueled fiercely, Hoffenheim became increasingly dangerous. Munas Dabbur missed a free kick for TSG far over the goal (67th). About five minutes later, Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels had to play when a shot from Dabbur was dangerous (73).
Hoffenheim kept pushing for the goal. A dream passage from Christoph Baumgartner to Mijat Gaćinović, but the midfielder hit the side netting (82nd). Shortly before time it became exciting again when Wolfsburg received a penalty but Weghorst missed (84th). In return, TSG Hoffenheim made it 2-1 via Sargis Adamyan (87th). In injury time, Hoffenheim received a penalty, but Casteels held it against Dabbur.
