Indian student leader Omar Khalid has been arrested in connection with the horrific communal violence in Delhi in February. The Delhi Police has accused him of being an important conspirator in the violence. He was produced in court on Monday through video link and sought a ten-day remand. British media BBC reported this.
Khalid was arrested after being questioned twice. They have claimed all the allegations, this investigation is a conspiracy. Several prominent activists and student leaders have been arrested in connection with the Delhi violence.
Human rights groups say that many activists, especially Muslims, are being unfairly targeted. However, the police have denied the allegations.
That February violence was against India’s controversial Amended Citizenship Act (CAA). More than 50 people were killed in three days of violence.
Several Indian activists and academics have issued statements on Khalid’s arrest.
