Gelsenkirchen (AP) – Bremen Bundesliga professional Ludwig Augustinsson reacted in horror at the spitting attack by Schalke’s defender Ozan Kabak.
“It’s not fun, it has nothing to do with football. It’s not fair play,” Augustinsson said after Werder Bremen’s 3-1 win at FC Schalke 04 on Sky TV. He did not even notice the situation in the 27th minute, the 26-year-old Swede said as he watched the television images.
“That was deliberate, a deliberate action,” said Sky expert Lothar Matthäus. “Being spat on as a player is the worst. I hope he will be punished.” In the 84th minute, Kabak got the yellow-red card for repeated foul play. “That is of course an absolute absurdity that does not belong on the football field,” said Werder coach Florian Kohfeldt.
