The ice-cold goal machine Wout Weghorst makes VfL Wolfsburg dream of the Champions League. Thanks to two goals from the Dutchman, the still unbeaten Lower Saxony defeated Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday 2-1 (0-0) and moved up to fourth place in the table for at least one night. However, the Hessians have been waiting for their third win of the season since October 3.
Club record set
The first two goals were scored by penalties. According to video evidence, ex-Wolfsburg Bas Dost first converted a very clumsy penalty from John Anthony Brooks (63rd). 13 minutes later, Weghorst was successful for the first time with a hand penalty, it was the eighth goal of the Dutchman of the season. The unlucky person of Frankfurt was Stefan Ilsanker. In the 88th minute, Weghorst met the final score from a tight corner, Frankfurt was defeated.
VfL Wolfsburg remains unbeaten this Bundesliga season, even setting a club record for the 2009 championship team with two late goals from Wout Weghorst. The 2: 1 (0: 0) victory over Eintracht Frankfurt was the eleventh game in a row that the Wolves were without a defeat on Friday night. Only the surprising champions of Felix Magath and the cup-winning team around Kevin de Bruyne have managed such a series in Wolfsburg in the 2014/15 season.
