Dortmund talent Giovanni Reyna is about to make his debut in the American national team. The attacking midfielder is part of coach Gregg Berhalter’s 24-man squad for the international games on November 12 in Wales and four days later against Panama in Vienna.
He follows in the footsteps of his father and the former American Captain Claudio Reyna.
“He can read the game well”
The 17-year-old has played ten league matches with two goals and five assists in the current season. Reyna mainly competes with BVB captain Marco Reus.
Coach Lucien Favre is convinced of the born Englishman: “His movements are good, he is dangerous for goals, also in preparation. He can read the game well and defend it well.”
And Reyna isn’t the only Bundesliga player to be on the US national team. Coach Berhalter also nominated Tyler Adams (RB Leipzig), John Brooks (VfL Wolfsburg), Josh Sargent (Werder Bremen) and Chris Richards (Bayern Munich).
