Manchester (AP) – There was no winner in the Premier League derby between the English record champions Manchester United and local rival Manchester City.
The two teams, who have so far not lived up to expectations this season, played a goalless and largely boring draw in front of empty stands at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
The hosts, trained by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, had the best scene of the match shortly after halftime. Marcus Rashford got the ball after a presentation by Bruno Fernandes, but was fouled in the penalty area by Kyle Walker. The penalty decision for Man United was reversed after review by the video referee because Rashford had previously been sidelined.
In the starting XI, Solskjaer relied on French World Champion Paul Pogba, whose agent Mino Raiola caused a stir this week by saying it would be “the best for everyone” if Pogba left Man United in January.
In the Premier League rankings, Manchester United are in seventh place with 20 points. City is eighth with 19 points. Both Manchester teams play a mixed season. The Red Devils have won only six of the eleven games, while coach Pep Guardiola’s Citizens have won only five league games.
